DSUK Milton Keynes Local Group

DSUK Local Groups exist to enable our skiers and boarders to practice what they have learned during lessons. They provide a safe, fun and social environment to ski and snowboard with other adaptive snowsport enthusiast. Milton Keynes Local Group is run by dedicated volunteers and volunteer instructors. They have access to all the adaptive equipment for members to practice their skills from their lessons or simply enjoy a few runs together in a friendly social group.

Who can join us?
To join local group, all attendees must be able to use the main slope comfortably within their adaptive snowsports arrangement, whether stand or sit ski and snowboard and whether independently or riding with an instructor (e.g. sit ski tethering).  If you’re interested in joining us but not sure if you are able to, we’re more than happy to have an informal chat to talk through.  Sometimes we might recommend you have a lesson first to be formally assessed by a DSUK Instructor too.  Just get in touch and we’ll do our best to enable you to join us!.

How we work
Once you’re a DSUK member and on our mailing list, you will receive an email from our slope organiser prior to the next monthly session where you’ll be able to indicate your interest in joining us.  We’ll then advise if you can join us, subject to equipment and volunteer helper availability/need (usually at least a week before the planned session).

Stand skiers and snowboarders are always generally able to join us, but we do have limited access to sit-skis and qualified helpers who can operate them, therefore sit-skier places are more in demand, but we do everything we can to accommodate all sit-skiers where possible.

Whilst DSUK membership enables you to join us at our local group session, you’ll also need to purchase a lift pass direct with the slope we use, each time we are there.  This will need arranging in advance of the local group session (we can advise you what the current costs are and options to get discounts on this).

And finally, on the day of local group, we meet prior to the start of the session, get ready for the slope (get changed / equipment) and head out for a 2 hour slope session in the company of your friends, family and helpers as needed.

Volunteering with DSUK
Volunteer helpers are always needed to enable us to run recreational adaptive snowsport sessions, whether you’re a skier, boarder or non-skier. Helpers can act as on-slope buddies or off the slope helping with loading or unloading skiers from the lift.  We’ll provide you any training needed and cover your slope costs as a volunteer. If you’re interested in volunteering with us, get in touch and we can talk through your options to work with us.
