I fell in love with skiing when I visited DSUK at Hemel Hempstead, and I have never looked back. Working with the instructors and assistants at Hemel, I have greatly improved my skiing ability initially starting in a Bi-ski and now using a Mono-ski despite challenges due to my Cerebral Palsy Spastic Quadriplegia. During February 2019, I went to Beitostølen in Norway for a week's incredible skiing, and I can't wait for my next trip to Beitostølen. (Beitostølen was amazing not my skiing!)

I am also the Co-Chair of DSUK Skiers and Snowboarders Involvement Group (SSIG), and I really value the opportunity to work with the SSIG as well as DSUK to make sure DSUK has inclusive policies and practices for all.

My name is Rosemary. I became involved with Disability Snowsport UK after I volunteered to go on a school ski trip in order to support a pupil with a health problem. The following year I again became a volunteer helper on a ski trip for 5 adult wheelchair users and 2 adults with learning needs.

I strongly believe there is no such thing as disability, there is only ability and that everyone should have the opportunity to experience what it is like to ski no matter how much support they need.

When I'm not in the mountains or being a volunteer helper for skiers I work on my local hospital's children’s ward as a nurse.

I started my skiing adventures two years ago at the age of 49. It has been an amazing journey and I still have to pinch myself when I am on the slopes. The excitement and thrill of skiing is something I never thought I would experience due to my Cerebral Palsy Left Hemiplegia. The skill, professionalism and encouragement of the DSUK instructors at DSUK Glasgow has made that possible. I am a stand up skier and receive support from my instructor through the use of tethers to help control my speed and direction. We have been working on independent skiing and I hope to build on this when we return to the slopes.

In February 2020 I had the joy of going on a DSUK holiday to Arinsal with my daughter. It was an incredible experience to share with a fantastic group of people and I hope to return in the near future. Skiing with DSUK has improved my wellbeing in a physical sense but also confidence in my ability to tackle a mountain!

I am delighted to be part of the SSIG and hope to contribute in a way that maximises opportunities for existing skiers and also inspires others to take part in adaptive skiing.

Skiing has always been my passion and I completed my dream career of being an alpine and adaptive ski instructor working out in Canada. After a life changing illness and subsequent chronic health issues, I just switched from standing to dual skiing and still have a massive smile on my face! I want to use all my experiences to help dsuk and get more people feeling the positive mental and physical benefits skiing can bring
