Calling all runners!

The DSUK Race the Train in association with Cairngorm Runners is back for2022 and it is full steam ahead!

Join us in the 7.5K trail run, to race to the finish against the Strathspey Railway steam train from Boat of Garten along the Speyside Way to Aviemore. Much of the race, especially the second half, runs by the railway track, if you hear the train coming you'd better stoke your engine and sprint for the finish!

Whether you have been a runner your whole life or you are just starting out, taking part in Race the Train for DSUK is a fantastic opportunity to test your progress while competing not only with your fellow runners, but with the traditional Highland steam train all while supporting Disability Snowsports UK.

The DSUK Race the Train event is a wonderful team building event or an enjoyable challenge for the solo runner. It also promises to be a wonderful day out for spectators too, find a spot-on route and cheer the runners.

FAQ’s

REGISTRATION

1. How do I register?

Registering for Race the Train is quick and simple! Go to the Eventbrite Page to purchase your ticket. Don’t forget to bring a registration confirmation with you on the day, so we can confirm your attendance.

2. Is there a registration fee?

Race the Train costs £27 for non-members of Scottish Athletics to register. This amount allows one member of DSUK to significantly subsidise their lesson. It includes your place at the event, including travel to Boat of Garten on the Steam Train and the medal for finishing the race!

3. Can I register as a team?

All individuals need to register on Eventbrite separately, however, you can fundraise as a team via Just Giving. If you decide to do this, remember your fundraising target is still £100 per person, so add all members of your team to create a mutual target.

4. Is there an age limit to register?

You need to be 16 or over.

All participant under 18 years old will need a parent or guardian to register on their behalf and consent to their participation.

All the contact details must be of the parent or guardian as we do not have permission to contact anyone under the age of 18 about the race or fundraising.

A parent or guardian should create your fundraising page too. Once the page has been created the name on the profile page, the picture and story can be updated.

5. Will I receive emails from DSUK?

Yes, we will be in touch regularly with any updates you need to know, as well as information on great prizes to be won by top fundraisers, so keep an eye on those emails!

THE EVENT

6. Do I need to be an experienced runner to take part?

The total distance is 7.5k, but you do not need to be an experienced runner to take part. We do, however, recommend training ahead of the day to make sure you conquer the full distance. Cairngorm Runners will marshal the full race from the first to the last runner, so you can take it at your own pace.

7. Do I need any equipment?

All you need is a good pair of shoes for running and suitable clothing so you can focus on your race.

FUNDRAISING

8. Do I need to fundraise?

Although the world is almost back to 'Normal' after the pandemic, DSUK is still recovering. We’re proud to be back delivering lessons and holidays, but we need your fundraising support now more than ever!

After over 2 years of limited fundraising due to Covid from our team and our wonderful members and supporters, DSUK urgently needs more fundraising in 2022. So, to help us keep the power of snowsports alive, we ask all participants of Race the Train to raise a target of £100 per person.

To show our appreciation of your fundraising, anyone who raise the target amount will be put in to a prize draw to win some fantastic prizes. It is, however, not mandatory to fundraise and you can take part in the race even if you do not fundraise at all. The registration ticket price covers your participation in the event.

9. How do I fundraise?

The easiest way to fundraise for Race the Train is to use a JustGiving page. You can set up your Just Giving fundraising page here.

Make your page as interesting as possible by adding photos and videos and letting everyone know why you’re raising money to empower disabled people to ski or snowboard. Share your page on Social Media and email it to your friends and family. More and more donations are being made via social media so be sure to share a link to your page!

Don’t forget, you can also use the JustGiving app on your iPhone or Android to update your page.

If you would prefer an old fashioned sponsor sheet that is not a problem, just let us know and we will get one sent across to you.
