Home 2 Rome 2010

26th July 2010

Good luck to Team Deathproof who are taking part in the Home 2 Rome 2010 rally.

A Glasgow snowboarding instructor is rallying from Britain to Rome later this month to raise funds for Disability Snowsports UK (DSUK).

Dave Tarr, an instructor at SNO!zone Scotland at Braehead, is taking part in the Home2Rome Rally, travelling from Calais to Rome in a car costing just £150 in an attempt to raise more than £1000 for DSUK.

He chose to support the charity after seeing how skiing lessons provided by them are helping a fellow snowboarder get the confidence to go back on the snow after an accident left him paralysed.

Dave, who lives in Glasgow, will be joined by friends Joe Hutchinson and Ben Mills to make up the Team Death Proof.

The team have raised nearly £1000 in sponsorship already and they will also battle it out for £1,000 cash during the rally. The cash prize will be rewarded to the rally team that manages to acquire the most points over 4 days of driving and wacky challenges en-route, first place receives £1,000 in cash, second place £350 and third place £150 for its chosen charity. The team will donate all profits to DSUK.

Dave comments: “We’re taking on a major challenge to drive across the best roads and through the most incredible cities in Europe, all in four days. The three of us are all car fanatics so we hope our rally car makes it all the way to the finish line!

“We have chosen DSUK as our charity as it has directly benefited a friend of mine who was a keen snowboarder and was tragically paralysed from the waist down in an accident. The one thing he missed following the accident was snowboarding and DSUK are really helping him to get back on the snow and enjoy the sport again.

“We hope to raise at least £1000 in sponsorship money prior to the event and hopefully we’ll walk away with first prize too!”

The Home2Rome Rally takes in most of the Grand Tour, which saw young English gentlemen travelling to Paris, Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome over 3-4 years back in the 17th century, taking in the culture as they went – this rally attempts to do it in 4 days!

The team set off on their epic adventure yesterday, so we all wish you the best of luck! To support the team, please visit www.justgiving.com/davetarr.
