Training & Qualifications

We provide a comprehensive and professional training programme for instructors and volunteer helpers.

BASI Adaptive Course

This course is the highest qualification in adaptive skiing and is open to those who already hold a ski qualification, BASI or ASSI or you are an experienced adaptive skier.

If you pass the 10 day course, which takes place in Europe, you will be able to have adaptive added to your existing recognition allowing you to work with adaptive skiers.

The next course will run from 12th - 23rd April 2010 in Hintertux, Austria

For more details on this course please go to www.BASI.org.uk -choose courses and then adaptive for information.

BASI Instructors can access the Brookie Bursary to assist with the cost of their Adaptive Course.

Simon Brooke was a BASI ski teacher working in France. Tragically in August 2003 Simon’s life was cut short when he was killed in a car crash.  Since this tragic accident, one of Simon’s closest friends and mentors, BASI Trainer Gareth Roberts, has organised an annual ski race named the Brookie Bowl. Held in Courcheval each season, the aim of this race is to keep Simon’s memory alive by raising funds for Disability Snowsport UK to assist instructors to access the BASI Adaptive Course. DSUK Volunteer Helper Training

Our activities would not be possible without the skill and commitment of our volunteer helpers.

They provide support and help for our skiers & snowboarders during travel, in the hotel and around the resort and assist our qualified instructors on the slope.

Many of our volunteers also regularly take part in Local Group activities.

Each year we run both Disability Awareness weekends for our helpers in the UK and training weeks in Europe. When conditions allow us we also provide training during our activity weeks.

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and skiing ability. The things they have in common are a sense of humour, a desire to help others and a love of skiing.

Volunteers Training usually takes place in Zermatt in November and Andorra in the spring. Places are limited so book early.
