Training & Qualifications

We provide a comprehensive and professional training programme for instructors, through BASI, and volunteer helpers through DSUK.

BASI Adaptive Courses

 BASI Adaptive Level One

This is the entry level course for students who wish to join the BASI Education System. The qualification is for those wishing to find employment in a non-mountain environment, i.e. Indoor Snowslopes.

BASI Adaptive Level Two

This course is the highest qualification in adaptive skiing and is open to those who already hold a ski qualification, BASI or ASSI or if you are an experienced adaptive skier.

If you pass the 10-day course, which takes place in Europe, you will be able to have adaptive added to your existing recognition allowing you to work with adaptive skiers.

For more details on these courses please go to www.basi.org.uk - choose "courses" and then "adaptive" for full information of the Adaptive Pathway.

BASI Instructors can access the Brookie Bursary to assist with the cost of their Adaptive Course. Funds are limited for each course and may not be available for each application.

Simon Brooke was a BASI ski teacher working in France. Tragically in August 2003 Simon’s life was cut short when he was killed in a car crash.  Since this tragic accident, one of Simon’s closest friends and mentors, BASI Trainer Gareth Roberts, has organised an annual ski race named the Brookie Bowl. Held in Courchevel each season, the aim of this race is to keep Simon’s memory alive by raising funds for Disability Snowsport UK to assist instructors to access the BASI Adaptive Course. DSUK Volunteer Helper Training

Our activities would not be possible without the skills and commitment of our volunteer helpers.

They provide support and help for our skiers and snowboarders during travel, in the hotel and around the resort and assist our qualified instructors on the slope.

Many of our volunteers also regularly take part in Local Group activities.

Each year we run both Disability Awareness weekends for our helpers in the UK and training weeks in Europe. When conditions allow us we also provide training during our activity weeks.

Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and skiing ability. The things they have in common are a sense of humour, a desire to help others and a love of skiing.

Volunteers Training usually takes place throughout the UK and will be advertised through our e.news and social network sites. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
