New Zealand Slalom World Cup Results

Official Results: Heather Mills 2nd Jade Etherington 3rd Anna Turney DNF1 Ben Sneesby 4th Tim Farr 5th James Whitley 9th Mick Brennan DNF1

The 2013-2013 IPC Alpine Skiing season officially got underway yesterday with the first World Cup Slalom race at Coronet Peak in New Zealand. A strong British team performed very well winning 2 medals - a Bronze for Jade Etherington and her new Guide Caroline Powell in the Women’s VI Category and a silver for Heather Mills (her first World Cup medal) in the Women’s standing category. Men’s sit-skiers Ben Sneesby and Tim Farr both narrowly missed out on winning their first World Cup medals finishing 4th and 5th respectively whilst 15 year old James Whitley continued his excellent form from last season with a 9th place finish in the very competitive men’s standing category. There was less fortune for sit skiers Anna Turney and Mick Brennan who both failed to finish.

All the athletes will get the chance to improve on their performances tomorrow when the second slalom race is held, before they move on to Mt Hutt (NZ) at the weekend for the first Super G and Super Combined races of the season. The last events of the Southern Hemisphere season will take place at Thredbo (Aus) at the beginning of September.
